— The Journey
What these
seven days
look like
Seven days is the point where Sri Lanka stops being a sequence of highlights and starts becoming a place you genuinely understand. This journey covers the island’s full cultural and natural spectrum: the ancient fortress of Sigiriya, the spiritual grandeur of Kandy, the cool mist of Nuwara Eliya’s tea country, Asia’s most celebrated scenic train ride to Ella, the golden shores of Bentota, and the vibrant, layered energy of Colombo. Not a checklist. A proper, unhurried immersion.

Sigiriya — The Lion Rock Awaits
Your guide is at arrivals the moment you land. The drive north into Sri Lanka’s Cultural Triangle is an introduction to a landscape that changes completely from everything you may have imagined, flat coastal plains giving way to forest and paddy, the air softening with altitude, the pace slowing to something worth savouring.
En route, there’s time to stop at Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage, where over 80 rescued elephants live and bathe in the river each day. By the time you arrive in Sigiriya, the sun is setting over a landscape that feels genuinely ancient. Tomorrow, you climb the rock. Tonight, you rest and settle in.

Sigiriya → Kandy
The Rock Fortress & Sacred Kandy
The morning belongs to Sigiriya. The Скальная крепость Сигирия, a 5th-century citadel rising 200 metres from the jungle floor, is one of the most extraordinary archaeological sites in the world. 1,200 steps take you past ancient frescoes of celestial maidens, through the famous Lion Gate, to a summit with views across Sri Lanka’s entire central plain. It earns every step.
The afternoon drive to Kandy passes through the Cultural Triangle’s forest roads and delivers you to Sri Lanka’s spiritual heart. Kandy is dignified, warm, and completely different in character from Sigiriya. The evening closes with a traditional Kandyan cultural dance and fire-walking ceremony, one of the most memorable experiences on this entire journey.

Kandy → Nuwara Eliya
Little England — The Roof of Sri Lanka
The ascent from Kandy to Nuwara Eliya is one of the most beautiful drives on the island. The air cools as you climb, the valleys fill with tea, and the landscape opens into something that genuinely resembles the English countryside, which is precisely why the British built a hill station here and called it Little England.
The route passes the dramatic Водопады Рамбода before arriving at a working tea plantation and factory, where you’ll watch the full journey from leaf to cup, and taste Ceylon tea that bears no resemblance to anything in a supermarket. Nuwara Eliya’s own charms, Lake Gregory, the Hakgala Gardens, the remarkable Seetha Amman Temple, fill the afternoon at a properly unhurried pace.

Nuwara Eliya → Ella (by train)
The World’s Most Scenic Train Ride
This is the day most people photograph and remember longest. The train from Nanu Oya to Ella is consistently cited as one of the most beautiful rail journeys on earth, a slow, swaying passage through cloud forests, waterfalls, ravines, and tea-covered hillside that opens into views you will genuinely struggle to describe when you get home. The journey takes several hours and every minute of it is worth watching.
Ella is a small mountain town with an enormous reputation, and it earns it. The afternoon is open for Ravana Falls, a short hike to the iconic Nine Arch Bridge through the jungle, the climb to Mini Adam’s Peak for panoramic views, or simply sitting somewhere quiet while the mountains do what mountains do. The adventurous can try the Flying Ravana Zipline, 1.2 kilometres, 160 metres above the valley floor.

Ella → Bentota
Galle & the Golden Shore
The descent from the mountains to the coast takes you through the island’s southern interior, a long, rewarding drive that gives way to the Indian Ocean in a way that feels like a genuine reward. En route, the walled Dutch Fort at Galle is a UNESCO World Heritage site and a deeply atmospheric place to walk: ramparts, cobblestone lanes, colonial architecture, boutique hotels in 17th-century buildings. Galle is Sri Lanka’s most elegant hour.
Bentota is different in every way, barefoot, warm, and completely unbothered. The afternoon is yours: the beach, the ocean, optional water sports, or simply the kind of stillness that a week of cultural immersion makes feel well-earned. At day’s end, a Madu River boat ride through 60 mangrove islands closes the day with the sort of quiet beauty that’s difficult to plan for.

Colombo — A City of Contrasts
Colombo is Sri Lanka’s full stop, a city that contains everything the island is and wants to be simultaneously. Colonial buildings beside glass towers. Buddhist temples beside mosques beside Hindu kovils, all within walking distance. Street carts and Michelin-starred restaurants on the same block. Your guide knows how to show you both the city’s soul and its surface.
The day covers the landmark sites, the serene Gangaramaya Temple, the graceful Площадь Независимости, the striking Red Mosque, and opens the afternoon for Colombo’s irresistible markets: the brilliant chaos of Pettah, where everything is available for the right price, or the more refined lanes of Fort for handcrafted pieces worth taking home. Dinner tonight at a local restaurant, Sri Lankan cuisine done properly. A night in Colombo is a genuinely good night.

The Last Morning — Until Next Time
Seven days in Sri Lanka. By now you’ll have stood on a rock fortress that was built fifteen centuries ago, watched elephants bathe in a river, sat in a train carriage with your door open as the tea country moved past you like a slow, beautiful dream, and walked beaches that genuinely looked like postcards. The last morning is yours — one final breakfast, one last view of the Indian Ocean from the city. Our driver will have the transfer perfectly timed.
Sri Lanka has a way of staying with people. Seven days is enough to feel that. It’s rarely enough to feel finished with it.
